What is your life's purpose?

You wake up everyday doing what you usually do - take a bath, eat breakfast, go to school or go to work. You do what you needed to do to survive what that day gives you - you are living in the moment.

Now here is this question - What is your life's purpose?

In your entire existence, have you ever cross this question? Simple as it seems but when someone asked me this, I paused. I fade away in silence as I reflect in the question and asked myself repetitively. I woke up everyday doing my usual tasks. I work for usual reasons - buy material things, satisfy my loved one needs, for self fulfillment; but really, what is my life's purpose?

I start to look back. What have I done in my 27 years?  Yes, I do have goals.  I was brought up by my mom as a goal oriented person - a person full of aspirations and dreams. I remember doing everything geared towards my goals - to be successful in my chosen career, have reasonable savings, buy material things I like, have my own car, have my own house etc. Yes, I have goals but is this the same as my life's purpose? Is waking up everyday doing my usual routines geared towards those goals enough to be said that I am living with a purpose?

I may not have the answer now and I don't know when will I know it. This I know will need more time to reflect and that I need to answer a lot of questions about myself but what's important is I am awaken. I am awaken to put more effort everyday, to just not live the moment, to know my deepest desires and to know my life's purpose.

Notes from Sunday Mass Homily

Sunday is an exciting day for me because it means I'll be able to attend the Sunday Mass at the Chapel of Eucharistic Lord presided by Rev. Fr. Nolan Que. It means another day to learn about the Word of God, another day to brighten me up and shake the positivity in me. I find the homily very interesting and helpful. Interesting because its very lively and interactive; helpful because it helped me interprete the message of the readings correctly and deeply. But the most important thing is that, Fr. Nolan Que's homily helped me in coping up in my day to day challenges, giving me positive outlook in life. Now, I am sharing some of my notes from his homily each Sunday in hope that it might help you too and hopefully to invite you to do the Sunday Mass habit. God bless!

My Twenty Ten

January 2, 2011 - second day of a new year.  It's 2011 but for some reasons I don't feel like I'm moving from 2010.  What is there in 2010 that made me felt like I want to extend it? Am I leaving something unfinished? Makes me think, what happened to you 2010?

So there.. 2010 = celebrations! It must be these fun and non stop parties and get together that is tying me up with 2010.  2010 is almost perfect.. almost.

Now, it's time to bid your farewell and hello to another fun and exciting 2011! I hope that 2011 will make up for the missing links in 2010. Positivity! :)

President Aquino's Inaugural Address

* de-kalidad na edukasyon, kabilang ang edukasyong bokasyonal para makapaghanap ng marangal na trabaho ang hindi makapag-kolehiyo;
* serbisyong pangkalusugan tulad ng PhilHealth para sa lahat sa loob ng tatlong taon;
* tirahan sa loob ng mga ligtas na komunidad.

We will cut red tape dramatically and implement stable economic policies. We will level the playing field for investors and make government an enabler, not a hindrance, to business.

To those who are talking about reconciliation, if they mean that they would like us to simply forget about the wrongs that they have committed in the past, we have this to say: there can be no reconciliation without justice. Secretary de Lima, you have your marching orders. Begin the process of providing true and complete justice for all.

My government will be sincere in dealing with all the peoples of Mindanao. We are committed to a peaceful and just settlement of conflicts, inclusive of the interests of all – may they be Lumads, Bangsamoro or Christian.

We shall defeat the enemy by wielding the tools of justice, social reform and equitable governance leading to a better life.

To our friends and neighbors arou
nd the world, we are ready to take our place as a reliable member of the community of nations, a nation serious about its commitments and which harmonizes its national interests with its international responsibilities.

We will be a predictable and consistent place for investment, a nation where everyone will say, ‘it all works.’

Walang lamangan, walang padrino, at walang pagnanakaw. Walang wang-wang, walang counter-flow, walang tong. Panahon na upang tayo ay muling magkawanggawa.

Nandito tayo ngayon dahil sama-sama tayong nanindigan at nagtiwala na may pag-asa.

The people who are behind us dared to dream. Today, the dream starts to become a reality.

We will design and implement an interaction and feedback mechanism that can effectively respond to the people’s needs and aspirations.

My parents sought nothing less and died for nothing less than democracy, peace and prosperity. I am blessed by this legacy. I shall carry the torch forward.

SIGNS OF INSECURITY

Here are some common signs that indicate insecurity:

Defensiveness

Insecure people tend to be very sensitive to critique and respond with defensiveness. They aren’t comfortable enough with themselves to accept that they might be flawed.
A secure person can handle criticism. They’re open to hearing about ways they might improve. If they disagree with the criticism, they don’t try to argue because they’re happy with who they are.
They’re comfortable enough to be themselves, even if other people don’t like it. They realize that they can’t please everyone.

Can’t Enjoy Silence

Some insecure people just can’t deal with silence. They fill every void with meaningless chatter, almost to avoid having to reflect on themselves. The unfortunate consequence is the annoyance of everyone around them, who secretly look for an escape.
A secure person can tolerate, and often enjoys silence. If they are with someone else, they have the ability to let someone else talk without having to interject their own perspective.

Excessive Joking

Another coping mechanism for insecurity is constant joking. While a sense of humor is almost necessary for emotional health, the excessive joker doesn’t seem to know the limits of appropriateness. (Think Michael Scott on “The Office.”)
It feels good when everyone laughs at your joke, and an insecure person craves this sort of attention. The unfortunate consequence is an uncomfortable environment and an insensitivity to others.
Jokes are almost always more funny when they are well-timed and delivered by a person of confidence. Security gives you the ability to be sensitive of others; knowing what they would consider funny and what they would consider offensive.

Self-Promoting

Insecure people tend to talk about themselves constantly, as if they feel like they have to prove themselves. Self-promotion is paramount to over-compensation for doubt.
A confident person doesn’t need to promote himself. His qualities are displayed naturally by the way he lives his life. Besides, he doesn’t need validation from anyone anyway.

Bullying

Insecure people feel threatened by others, and one way to cope with this is to try and squash them. The most threatening person of all to an insecure person is a secure person, because they can sense their power.

Overly Authoritative

Insecure people in positions of power tend to compensate for their lack of confidence by taking out their frustrations on their subordinates. They might issue unfair punishments or orders as a way to prove their authority.
I once had a boss who took joy in screaming at his employees, even for minor offenses. Once, I overheard him speaking to another manager about picking someone to fire for the fun of it. This kind of excessive authoritativeness is an obvious over-compensation for insecurity.

Overly Competitive

Competitiveness is part of a healthy emotional makeup, but over-competitiveness is a sign of a problem. Someone who can’t take losing by making a big emotional display lacks confidence.
A person who is secure with himself wins or loses with grace. Grace has a lot to do with respecting your opponent, and you can only do that if you are first comfortable with yourself.

Materialistic

A very dangerous coping mechanism for insecurity is buying things you can’t afford just to show off. We can all think of people with huge TV’s, fast cars, and every toy known to man; even though they don’t make much money. People like this tend to run up their credit cards and get themselves into big trouble.
A secure person doesn’t need to show off. He doesn’t care what other people think about his possessions.

Insecurity in Relationships

Insecurity tends to be amplified in relationships. In this situation, there is a constant struggle for control and energy.
Interestingly enough, people tend to be attracted to other people at the same level of security. Insecure people tend to find other insecure people to date, and secure people tend to date other secure people.
A healthy relationship is made up of two secure people who create their own emotional energy and give to their partner. An unhealthy relationship is made up of two insecure people who take emotional energy from their partner.
